How to Check the Transmission Fluid in a 1992 BMW
1. Start your BMW and wait for the needle on the engine temperature gauge to rise to the middle of the gauge.
2. Open the hood and pull the looped handle in the back of the engine all the way out. You should see red fluid on the end of the dipstick. This is transmission fluid.
3. Wipe the dipstick clean with a rag and reinsert the dipstick into the transmission filler neck until the dipstick cap is fully seated in the mouth of the filler neck.
4. Pull the transmission dipstick back out and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the upper and lower marks on the end of the dipstick. If it is not, you will need to pour the appropriate transmission fluid into the neck until the fluid level is between the upper and lower marks on the end of the dipstick.
