Believe it or not, among the hubbub of stunning electric supercars, sporty hybrids and wild-n-wooly muscle cars, theres a bit of regular car news happening at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. BMW today priced the 2011 740i (shown in these new live photos) and 740Li, to start from $71,025 and $75,425, respectively. Thats about $11,000 less than the 750i.

Under normal circumstances, a BMW 7-Series isnt a "regular" car--its a luxurious executive sedan or limo. But these arent normal circumstances, and this isnt your normal 7-Series. Its the return to the 7-Series six-cylinder roots--the first return to those roots in the U.S. since the 735i ceased production in 1992.

As we detailed for you back in December, the 740i and long-wheelbase 740Li get BMWs twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six turbocharged engine, rated at 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the twin turbocharging, all that torque is available from 1,600 rpm to 4,500 rpm.

The 740i and Li will both benefit from the standard range of options, accessories and packages for the rest of the 7-Series line, including the M Sport Package, which adds a sporting flair with 19 or 20 in alloy wheels, an M logo shifter, M logo steering wheel, and M logo footrest, plus an exterior styling kit.
